About Traveling Expats — Slow Travel Experts Living in Germany

Hi! We’re Lee and Betty.
For more than 30 years, we’ve lived, worked, and traveled throughout Europe. Along the way, we developed a deep appreciation for its history, cultures, incredible food, and endless opportunities for adventure.
Why We Call Ourselves Expats
People often ask why we call ourselves “expats.” Germany has been part of our lives for more than 30 years. Throughout our careers, we returned several times on work assignments, living here for one to three years at a time before moving back to the United States. After retiring more than four years ago, we decided to make Germany our home once again by applying for German residency.
Now we’re enjoying the opportunity to experience Germany and Europe at a much slower pace — true slow travel, without a schedule to rush back to.
Although Germany feels like home, our family remains our highest priority. Our children are building their own lives in the United States, and one day, if grandchildren come along, we’ll most likely move back to be closer to them. Until then, we’re making the most of every opportunity to explore Germany and Europe while we can.
Why We Created Traveling Expats
We created Traveling Expats to share our experiences with anyone who dreams of visiting Europe, moving abroad, or simply seeing the world through the eyes of two Americans who have experienced life on both sides of the Atlantic.
Our goal is to provide honest, first-hand Germany and Europe travel guides, practical advice, and authentic stories that help you travel with confidence and discover destinations you might otherwise overlook.
Whether we’re wandering medieval towns, discovering hidden gems, sampling local food, or sharing what daily life in Germany is really like, we’re excited to have you along for the journey.
